Following its Annual General meeting on Thursday 26 November, Greyhounds Australasia (GA) wishes to advise of a series of amendments made to its constitution.
The amendments include:
- changes to the voting structure to reflect the size of each member’s jurisdiction
- the introduction of a compulsive resolution which each member is required to follow
- dissolving the role of the Executive group, and
- changing the appointment process of GA’s Chairman, with the Chairman’s role to now be filled from outside GA’s membership base.
In announcing these changes, GA Chief Executive Officer Craig Taberner speaking on behalf of the Board, acknowledged the Board’s desire to continue to evolve, institute best practice governance into its decision making and representations on behalf of the industry.
The constitutional changes aligned with the end of the term, of the outgoing Chairman Jan Wilson who has made a substantial contribution to the Board in its development, to this stage. Jan will also retire from the Board of GA when her term as Greyhound Racing Victoria Chairman concludes. “GA acknowledges the significant contribution of the previous Executive members which included Phil Bennett and in particular Jan Wilson who met the significant demands placed on the Executive, acting in a voluntarily capacity. In Jan’s role as Chairman, GA has achieved a number of significant milestones including the evolvement of the National Data Repository, the introduction of the Frozen Semen Database and the adoption of GA’s microchip strategy.”
“Jan has represented GA at an international level as the first female Chairman of the World Greyhound Racing Federation and was strongly involved in the Federal Governments Australian Animal Welfare Strategy.”
“She also oversaw GA’s progression to a position of financial viability and led the way in creating uniform National Rules, specifically enhancing the stance on prohibited substances.”
“Jan went beyond the call of duty for the good of greyhound racing. She has given energy, transparency and strategic direction to GA and has assisted GA in evolving to the next phase in its business cycle, culminating with these constitutional amendments.”
In early 2010, GA will begin an open search process, for its new Chairman.
