GREYHOUNDS AUSTRALASIA CLARIFIES POSITION ON IMPROVEMENTS IN DRUG TESTING
Greyhounds Australasia (GA) today clarified their position in relation to the endorsement of further improvements to drug testing protocols for Australian Greyhound Controlling Bodies.
Greyhounds Australasia Chief Executive Officer, Mr Craig Taberner said, “All sports face significant challenges in dealing with the illicit use of drugs. In our case, continuous improvements in drug testing machinery, analyses and processes are designed to maintain greyhound racings integrity and transparency and to ensure that greyhounds compete on a level playing field.”
“All Controlling Bodies at Greyhounds Australasia’s November meeting confirmed that they do not endorse the use of anabolic steroids in greyhound racing. They did however agree that an amendment be made to the definition of drugs by excluding “Ethyloestrenol” when administered orally to greyhound bitches and where it has been prescribed by a veterinary surgeon for the sole purpose of regulating or preventing oestrus, effective March 1st 2008”, Mr. Taberner said.
If participants have any concerns in relation to this matter and particularly if they are contemplating the use of Ethyloestrenol in these circumstances, it is highly recommended that they consult their veterinarian.
